valley high school. more information as it becomes available. >> baltimore city police are investigating the death of a man who died while in their custody. >> jennifer franciotti is live with the latest on this investigation. good morning. >> good morning. anthony anderson died on friday night after a confrontation with police. his granddaughter's birthday party when officers assaulteda number of family members say they witnessed the event. two detectives are telling a different story. they say they caught anderson in a drug deal. >> they observed him put what they suspected to be some type of narcotics in his mouth in an atttempt to hide them. so they placed him under arrest for that, took him into police custody, put handcuffs on him. he then started complaining of discomfort and pain. it was believed at the time that he may have ingested some of the drugs that he had and maybe was choking on them. >> police say the officers have been placed on suspension with pay pending the outcome of this investigation. more on the story coming up at 6:30. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> b

the baltimore ravens and cleveland browns take the field tonight the nfl's regular officiating crews will be calling the game. at the stroke of midnight the league and referees ended a three month lockout of the officials. the deal was struck after two days of marathon negotiations and controversial call to the end of monday night's game. after a series of miscalls, run ins with coaches and players, and on field confusion, the nfl referees are heading to the sideline. the league and officials union agreed on a tentative eight year contract that will put the normal officiating crews back on field. goodell said we look forward to having the finest officials in sports back on field. now it's time to put the focus back on the teams and players where it belongs. >> green bay will have a hard time. >> the two sides got serious about the negotiations after monday night's game between the packers and seahawks, a blown call on the last play of the game cost green bay the victory. under the new deal the average pay for the league's refs will rise from $149,000 a year in 2011 to $173,000 next y

was dedicated in the name of yardley love. the field is located at notre dame prep near baltimore where she attended high school. she is the former university of virginia lacrosse player who was murdered two years ago. her ex-boyfriend beat her to death in a drunken rage. he was sentenced to 23 years in prison. her family says building the field is what kept them going. >> it gave us something positive to focus on and to work on. it really pulled us up and got us going and got us out every day. >> the field cost $1.2 million to build and was financed through donations to the school and the one love foundation started by her family to help raise awareness for dating vile zbleens we could learn more about the search of a killer of that high school honors student. prince georges county police are holding a public meeting tonight to discuss amber stanley's murder. someone shot and killed the 17-year-old last month in her own bed at her home in kettering. detectives will give an update on their investigation. tonight's meeting begins at 7:00 at the community center. >>> also tonight, the naacp w

unprecedented happened on thursday night in baltimore, deb. fans actually gave a standing ovation to nfl officials. that's how bad this has gotten. monday night, of course, the botched call, changed the outcome of the seahawks-packers game in favor of seattle. that kind of led to a public outcry. this cannot stand. 17 hours of negotiations between the nfl and the officials on tuesday. finally late wednesday night, they had an agreement in principle. now finally the agreement has been formalized. the referees are back on the field and sunday's games will be fully staffed by the proper officials. >> you know, what's interesting is that one of sticking points is that nfl owners wanted the referees to become full-time nfl employees. a lot of these refs hold other jobs. and that was one of the reasons that the owners were so unwilling to compromise. why? i mean, these are very dedicated, professional referees. why should that technically be an issue? >> this is one of the things that gave the referees a really strong position in the bargaining. take the most famous referee, ed hochuli. he wor
